Understanding dream patterns

From my experience the patterns of my dreams follow my life experiences, which makes me wonder if it is possible to dream beyond conscious. I dream of running and it is like moving in slow motion, very difficult to move. I dream of fighting and there is no impact to my blows and always the other party have weapons and I have none. What are these dreams telling me about my temperament? I have started a number of projects and have not had the tenacity to see them through. I have been told that I am wishy washy, perhaps this is what my dreams are confirming.
